New projects launched to eliminate race discrimination from mental health services

The government is launching 40 new projects across England as part of a drive to eliminate racial discrimination from mental health services.

Mental Health Minister Rosie Winterton last week announced that more than £1m will be available for 40 extra “community engagement projects” as part of a bid to build stronger links between local mental health services and black and ethnic minority people.

Forty such projects are already in place.

The announcement came just days after an eminent psychiatrist rejected an OBE over fears that new mental health law could exacerbate the discrimination of black people
