'Scrap NHS reforms' psychiatrists tell government

October 14, 2011

......

Just one in 10 psychiatrists think planned government NHS reforms will lead to better patient care - and eight in ten want the plans ditched entirely.

The government's Health and Social Care Bill, which has completed its second reading in the House of Lords, will change NHS commissioning structures and will open up increased opportunities for private provision for the NHS.

A Royal College of Psychiatrists' survey had 1,890 respondents of whom only 12% believed the changes would lead to better patient care.

More than eight in ten (84%) said they wanted the bill to be scrapped.
