Ruby Wax to perform at private psychiatric unit

February 2, 2010

......

Comedienne Ruby Wax is to perfrom two shows at a private Birmingham psychiatric hospital.

The 56-year-old American, who has suffered with severe depression, will bring her Live From The Priory night to Edgbaston’s Woodbourne Priory for two dates this month.

A third of the audience of 50 have so far been taken up by out-patients and the rest by staff.

Ms Wax spent five days in The Priory in London after a breakdown following the birth of her third child, Marina, in 1993.

She once described depression as “like a cancer of the brain”.

The hospital provides 43 beds and most people are treated for anxiety, stress and depression as well as addiction and eating disorders.
