Half of mental health nurses have been stalked

September 7, 2006

Half of mental health nurses in the UK have been stalked, research has shown.

A survey of 400 mental health nurses across the UK found that half (50%) of respondents had been stalked, 79% of the victims were women and 82% of the stalkers were men.

Stalkers were from a variety of social groups, including other mental health nurses as well as mental health patients.

Victims reported that they had been threatened, followed, physically assaulted and received unwanted communication.

The research was published in the October edition of the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.
