£30m
being cut from mental health services, claims report
May 12, 2006
Cuts
totalling £30m are being made to 30 mental health services
around England, a charity report stated
The report, published by Rethink this week, accuses health trusts
and councils of singling out mental health as they battle to relieve
the NHS predicted debt of up to £700m for the past financial
year.
Cliff Prior, Rethink’s chief executive, said: ““We
are worried that vital services, such as early intervention, are
going to be severely damaged by these cuts. This
is in spite of the government setting mental health as a top priority
in 1999.”
