Elderly with
mental health problems 'discriminated against'
October
17, 2005
The
elderly with mental health problems are being systematically discriminated
against, a charity report claims.
The
report points to age discrimination by GPs, a lack of a specific
suicide prevention policy despite a high suicide rate among the
elderly, and a higher rate of prescribing electro-convulsive therapy
for the elderly
The
report, entitled Access All Ages, collated the experiences of 489
people with mental health problems aged over 50.
