One quarter
of mental health trusts performing to "highest level"
July
27, 2005
One
quarter of the 83 mental health trusts in England are performing
to "the highest level", the NHS watchdog said today.
The
trust ratings, reflecting performance in meeting targets, were published
in the Healthcare Commission's annual assessment of NHS trusts in
England.
The
number of mental health trusts achieving two or three star status
increased from last year. Five mental health trusts gained no stars.
This
is the final year the commission has rated performance using the
star system which has been criticised as being simplistic.
Next
year the commission is to employ an "annual health check"
to rate trusts in a bid to give a more comprehensive assessment
of NHS performance.
