The National Autism Plan for Children

April 4, 2003 - Source: The Royal College of Psychiatrists

The National Autism Plan for Children is the completion of the work of the National Initiative: Autism Screening and Assessment (NIASA)

The NIASA core group of experts was drawn from a wide range of disciplines and areas of expertise.

Key recommendations include a clear timeframe for assessment, a call for urgent training of professionals in knowledge and awareness of autism spectrum disorders, the active involvement of families in care planning and procedures, better multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working, and the setting up of national networks. The report's appendices contain useful tools and reference materials.

The plan can be downloaded from: http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk

To buy a copy of the full report and appendices (Code NAS 477; ISBN 1 899280 85 5), please contact The National Autistic Society's book distributors, quoting the title and the NAS code.
