Clinical Psychologist - Forensics: Mental Health Services

Primary requirements:
1.
New Zealand post graduate diploma in Clinical Psychology or overseas
equivalent.
2. Must have completed at least five years of post-supervisory hands
on treatment with an interest in forensics required;
3. Registration with the NZ Psychologists Registration Board as
a NZ clinical psychologist;
4. Able to apply for and receive your Annual Practising Certificate
(APC);
5. Previous work done in the area of psychological assessment and
providing treatment service and expertise in child and adolescent
mental health areas.
6. The ability to obtain a NZ driver's license and willingness to
travel to rural areas.
7. Previous experience working in a multi disciplinary team desired.
8. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
9. Able and willing to be supervised and complete required paperwork
and documentation;
10. Good problem solving skills.
11. Ability to prioritise activities.
12. Effective interpersonal skills.
13. Ability to work as part of multi-disciplinary team.
14. Ability to manage stress.
15. Sense of humour.
16. Able and willing to commit at least two years to our client.
17. Able and willing to apply for NZ residency with the intention
of immigrating to NZ long term highly desired.
Primary duties:
Be
part of a dynamic Forensic Psychiatric services health professionals
team working closely in conjunction with the Courts and Corrections
services as well as local general mental health providers. There
are around 30 clinical psychologists in total for all disciplines
inside and outside of forensics who provide services to clients
which offers a great professional network for other mental health
workers. There are close links as well with the University of Waikato's
clinical psychology programme plus joint training and research facility.
Client provides support both inside several prisons and in the community
for their geographic area. They work 8 to 4:30pm Monday through
Friday with no weekend work. They are a team of 34 at present which
includes nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, drug and alcohol
counsellors and administrative support.
Their vision and mission is to make a positive difference in peoples’
lives so that when they leave prison they do not return. Examples
of interventions includes anger management, system reduction, coping
skills, study, returning to a healthier environment than where they
lived before entering prison, wellness plans and other programmes.
